Quitting smoking

Having cancer and coping with treatment can be distressing. If you smoke, you may want to smoke to help you relax and deal with what is going on. However, research has shown that smoking can actually make you more tense and anxious. Smoking affects the chemicals in your brain, causing you to crave another cigarette. This can make you feel more anxious.

At the moment, the ways that vaping may affect people are unknown. Evidence shows that nicotene replacement treatment, such as patches or gum, are effective in helping people give up smoking.

If you are worried about your smoking and want to find out more, speak to your cancer nurse or GP. Research shows you are four times more likely to quit smoking if you are supported by someone.
